Why I Blog

This is my first post so I thought I'd take a minute and tell you why I'm writing this blog.

I'm Terri and my husband of 27 years is Alvin. We have a daughter named Toni who is 26. We're not 50 just yet. I will be 50 in April of 2013 and Alvin will be 50 in June of 2013. That's right ladies, I got me a boy toy!

Now all this getting older is new to us so we thought that it might be helpful to write about it and share at the same time.

We plan on not growing old gracefully, to me that seems like giving up, we're going to grow old kicking and screaming in a most undignified way.

I don't mean that we're going to do anything unnatural like plastic surgery or liposuction but we'll  do things the old fashioned natural way like exercise and good nutrition.

We figure we're in good company because nearly 11,000 people turn 50 every day in America, so maybe we can all get together and share some tips.

Getting older doesn't really bother us. You're only as old as you feel right? Well  sometimes we feel 25 and sometimes we feel 105. I sure most people can relate.

I fully expected wrinkles and grey hair (which hasn't really happened yet) but what I find more disturbing is the sagging. Yep, everything is baggin,' saggin' and draggin'. Now I need to decide if  I want it tucked, sucked or plucked.

When I was younger it was easy to start my day. Wash my face, a little moisturizer and I was ready to go. Now it's anti-wrinkle cream, firming serum, eye cream, lots of make-up. Yes, I've become high maintenance!

And what are these pains I've been getting? I'm too young for arthritis, right? O.K. let's just call it my achy, breaky hip. That sounds much better! Now it's a dance!

We don't let aches and pains slow us down. We take our achy feet, knees and hips for long walks to stay limber. Of course we do complain more but what's the point, nobody's listening anyway. They're just waiting for you to finish so they can tell you their horror story.

It's O.K. to get old but we believe that you don't have to get decrepit. How many times have you been out and you see that old man who's barely ambulatory. It scares us a lot to think that we may be looking at our future in that old man.

In the old days you could give up once you hit a certain age but not any more! You may have heard that 50 is the new 40 but I say that 50 is the new 35! Don't give up and keep moving forward. because if you don't you might as well dig a hole and lay in it.

By the time we turn 50 I expect we'll  be among some of the best looking 50 year olds in the country. Then again I'll settle for not too bad looking for an old gal!

So come along while we share 50 years of adventures and wisdom on all kinds of things.
